THE ABANDONED BABIES OF IVANKIV, UKRAINE

Last night, my wife had the opportunity to babysit a little 8 month old boy.  It was fun to watch as she cared for this little guy over the course of the evening.  It was even more fun to watch as his face lit up when his mother returned to pick him up after a few hours.

His face lit up because he knew that his mom loved him dearly.  Her face & her touch assured him of her love for him.

For so many children in this world, babies included, they have no one to love and care for them.  The 14 babies in the Ivankiv Pediatric Hospital are some of those who are without someone to love them...

THE ABANDONED BABIES...

In August, Jenny and I were in the town of Ivankiv making contacts in preparation to begin a new ministry there.  While in Ivankiv, we visited with Social Services and were taken to the local Pediatric Hospital where we were introduced to 4 young babies who had been abandoned by their mothers.

Misha (pictured) was rescued by neighbors from his mother.  She would get tired of hearing him scream and cry, so she would leave the house and put Misha up in the attic to cry.  Alone, Misha screamed day after day, so loud that the neighbors finally called the authorities.

When I walked into the room with Misha and these other babies my heart sank.  Four of them, laying in their cribs, no toys, no stimulation, nothing.  The head doctor shared with us that until we arrived with diapers, the babies were receiving one diaper change a day and they were watering down the formula to make it last longer.

We asked her why so many babies were abandoned and she stated that since a charitable fund had renovated the pediatric wing, mothers felt comfortable leaving their babies on the door step rather aborting the child before birth.  This has led to an increase from approximately 1 or 2 babies a year abandoned to about 14 at present count (late November).

EVERY PROBLEM HAS A SOLUTION...
The problem is that the Ivankiv Pediatric Hospital does not have the funds to care for these babies and they are too young to be taken to the orphanage.  So, the hospital is stuck with the children and have not received budget funds to provide for these babies.

In the middle of the fall, a couple in Fort Worth donated $500 to help meet the needs of these babies temporarily.  Recently, Hope International Adoption of Dallas also committed $1,000 to purchase diapers and formula right after New Years.

Fourteen babies will take a lot of diapers and formula!  I believe that God is calling Jeremiah's Hope to actively engage in helping meet the needs of these abandoned children.

WILL YOU HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

Jeremiah's Hope would like to start 2008 with enough funds set aside for provide diapers and formula for these babies for the whole year.

With help from sponsors, local Christians in Ivankiv will go to the Pediatric Hospital each week and deliver a donation of supplies.

A gift of $25 will buy 1 tin or formula and a box of baby cereal.  A gift of $50 will provide 100 diapers (enough for each baby to have 4 diapers per day for 2 days).

Your $25 or $50 contribution will help these babies have the diapers and formula they need.

You can make a donation online by going to:

Jeremiah's Hope is aiming to help in providing care for these babies throughout all of 2008.  Through regular visits to the Ivankiv Pediatric Hospital, we hope to not only provide the material supplies needed to care for these children, but to also bring volunteers to interact with these babies in efforts to help with their developmental needs also.

Please consider how you might make a year-end gift to Jeremiah's Hope to help with the care of these 14 babies in Ivankiv, Ukraine.
