Christmas for Kids 2003 - Sharing Christmas with the Orphans of Ukraine Approximately 650 orphan children received gift bags this year from Christmas for Kids 2003. Many hearts were touched as a team of five from the United States traveled to Ukraine to deliver gifts and spend time with children. This years team included Andrew Kelly from Abilene, Texas; Michael Ann Roe from Dallas; Brittany Conrad from Madison, Wisconsin; Marianne Matchynski from Livonia, Michigan and Caroline McMahon from Ferndale, Michigan. The team met in Chicago on December 28 and traveled together to Ukraine. Upon arrival in Donetsk region of Ukraine the team separated with Matchynski and McMahon staying in Donetsk while Kelly, Roe and Conrad traveled onto Mariupol. The Mariupol team delivered 300 gift bags to the Mariupol School Orphanage and 75 gift bags to the Vostochnie Toddler Orphanage. They left additional gift bags with the local missionaries to deliver to the Mariupol Children’s Hospital. Matchynski and McMahon first traveled to Scheznoya. In Scheznoya they visited a boarding school which also has 50 orphan students who stay at the school all year round. They stayed at the orphanage for two days and were able to spend a lot of time with the children. They then traveled to Ambrosievka where they stayed two days at the local Orphanage and delivered 225 gift bags. At both Ambrosievka and Scheznoya they were able to spend time playing with the children playing games with them, singing with them and talking with them about Jesus! On January 7 the entire team met
back up in Donetsk and on January 8 they departed from Ukraine to Frankfurt,
Germany. They spent the night in Frankfurt and on January 9 flew from Frankfurt
to Chicago. |
